This month I had the opportunity to try out the Drinkmate Omnifizz Soda Maker. Basically, it’s a neat little machine that can carbonate pretty much any cold beverage.
The bundle included the machine, a CO2 Cylinder, (2) plastic bottles, and (2) flavored drinks – Lemon Lime & Pink Grapefruit. The instructions were pretty straightforward, but there are a few warning labels since you’re dealing with a CO2 Cylinder.
Setup was pretty quick and I really liked that it doesn’t require any electricity or batteries. We tried the flavored drinks that came with the machine first. The kids really liked tapping the top button on the machine that creates the fizz. However, we found the drinks to be a bit too sweet so the kids weren’t super in love with the taste.
Next, we tried using our own drink -we decided to give orange juice a shot (it just suggests not to use anything with pulp). This was a little more tasty, it kind of gave it an orange marmaladey type feel. I will say that if you give it too many pumps, you will add way too much gas and the drink will be super foamy and taste like straight CO2. So make sure to just give it a few short taps. Also, the lid will be on super tight once you pull it off the machine, so you will want to pull up the release valve to let some air out before twisting off the top.
Overall, I think this is a neat little machine that could be fun to spruce up some drinks around the house. I can also see how this would be more environmentally friendly as you’re creating less waste with bottles and it’s a healthier option to sodas. I’m sure we will use it occasionally to try out new drinks. They also offer a CO2 exchange program on their website which I think is helpful and the portability is a great selling point as well. The only con is the price point as a basic bundle starts at $132.99.
So give one a shot and let me know what you think! I’m off to fizz up some more random drinks, specifically some wine. 🙂
