Walmart Beauty Box (Spring 2016)

I received my Walmart Beauty Box last month and was pleasantly surprised with the contents.  Walmart must have heard my complaints about the flimsy one time use samples because I only received one of those this time around!  As a reminder, this box ships every season and costs $5 to cover shipping.  They also ask for your age to customize your items.  Under 35 gets the Trendsetter version; Over 35 gets the Classic version.  Let’s take a look inside the Trendsetter box!

walmartblogwalmartblog2

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer – This lotion has improved over the years.  When it first came out I thought it kind of had an orange tint and a horrible smell.  The scent is lighter now and it has more of a natural color now.  I already have a pretty decent tan so I didn’t see a huge difference; however, maybe if I used this for a few weeks in a darker shade I would see more of a dramatic change.  I think it’s a great alternative to lying in the sun for hours or hitting up the tanning bed.  Protect your skin, people!!

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Subtle Lightning Shampoo – I only used this once because  I got my hair colored the day after receiving this box and I was worried about it interfering with my already processed hair.  I think it’s a great idea for anyone wanting a subtle color change without paying big bucks.  It kind of reminds me of a new age Sun-In (do they still make that stuff?)

Burt’s Bees BB Cream – This was the only one time use packet in the box, but I didn’t mind since it was foundation.  I really liked this product – it covered well and I like Burt’s Bees products in general.  I would most likely purchase this in the future.  It also included a $3 off coupon so even more reason to switch to this brand!

Curel Itch Defense Body Wash – This had a very clean and smooth feel to it with not much of a scent.  I don’t really have super dry skin, but I would imagine this would be very beneficial to someone suffering from a dry skin issue.

CeraVe Healing Ointment – I only used this once, but I like that it didn’t feel greasy or go on heavy at all.  I think this would also be a great product who has issues with chafed or cracked skin.

Colgate Optic White High Impact White Toothpaste – I was pretty stoked to receive a whole tube of toothpaste in this box!  I did notice a slight difference in my teeth after about a week of use.  I also have pretty sensitive teeth and this toothpaste didn’t seem to make them anymore sensitive.

Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick – Pink Grapefruit – I love, love, love this lipstick!  I love the color and that how it leaves my lips feeling moisturized and smooth.  It also has a wonderful grapefruit scent that isn’t too overwhelming.  The color also lasted longer than many of my other lip glosses.  I did combine it with one of my lip glosses on occasion to add an extra bit of shine.  I have pretty much used this product every day and will continue to use it in the future!

Overall, I was really pleased with this beauty box.  The Neutrogena Color Stick retails for around $6-$7 and the toothpaste retails for around $4, so just with those products alone I would say the $5 for this particular box was worth it.  I also discovered some pretty awesome products that I would not have otherwise tried.

Let me know what you received in your Walmart Beauty Box!

Target Beauty Box – March

I always love beauty samples! So here is a look at what was inside of Target’s March beauty box.  Yeah, yeah, it’s April….but ya know…whatevs.  And again, you have to act fast on these!  They normally sell out within hours!

blog target

Caress body wash – Adore Forever – This is a fragrance filled body wash that guarantees to have a long-lasting scent.  It’s sort of a sweet and exotic scent which is quite pleasant – it was reminiscent of being on a tropical island.  However, the scent really does last a loooong time and almost become overwhelming.  It was just a bit too strong for me.  I really wanted the honeymoon to be over.

Hair Food moisture shampoo and conditioner – This also had a sweet exotic scent to it, but not nearly as overwhelming.  It is silicone free, paraben free and mineral oil free.  I really did feel that my hair was softer after using these products so it is something I would consider purchasing in the future.

Laneige water sleeping mask – This was a bit slimy for me and you are supposed to rub it on your face, go to sleep, and then wash it off in the morning.  I’m not really a fan of sleeping with something on my face – I don’t know why – but it just really bothers me…so probably not something I would use regularly.

Nugg anti-aging face mask – I really liked the texture and delicate scent of this mask.  I also like that they come in little pods and you only have to leave it on for a few minutes at a time.  I will probably use this sometime in the future.

Sinful Colors nail polish in Poisonberry – The color was a bit too dark for me, but my 3 year old loved it for her toes and it did last almost a week.  This is a pretty inexpensive brand (about $2 a bottle), so I would try this item again but in a lighter color.

Banana Boat sunscreen in SPF 30 – I used this while running and felt that it did its job.  No sunburn and the scent was pretty subtle.  I try to stick with natural or organic sunscreens, so I most likely would not use this product again.

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Sea Salt Spray – I really wanted to love this, but it didn’t do a whole lot for my hair.  Probably because I already have wavy – curlyish hair.  But it did smell beachy and island-y which I liked. It’s also retails at Target at less than $5 a bottle (8 oz) so it’s definitely a good deal if it works for your hair type.

You are Amazing juicy grapefruit lotion – I really enjoyed this lotion.  It wasn’t too heavy, has a great scent and is paraben-free.  It also retails at Target for about $4 a bottle (8oz) which pretty much rocks, so I can see this lotion in my future!

The beauty box also includes a coupon for $3 off of a $15 beauty purchase which is super awesome because I never turn down a good coupon!

Overall, I really liked all of the samples and can’t wait to see what will be in next month’s box!  Hopefully you were able to snag one, too!

Target Beauty Box – February

So you’ve seen my review of Walmart’s Beauty Box,  now here is a look at the Target Beauty Box!  Yes, I am aware it is March…but whatevs, I do what I want. 🙂  Target’s beauty boxes run between $5-$7 per month, while Walmart’s are $5 every season. But if you use your Target Red Card, you will save 5% and receive free shipping.  I will note that these boxes sell out quick!  Like first day quick!  Unlike Walmart’s beauty box, these are not set up like an automatic subscription.  You have to manually purchase each month, so set yourself a reminder to get yours each month!  So let’s take a looksee!

blogpic1

  • Ecotools- Ecopouf Mini Sponge (100% recycled sponge) – This little sponge is pretty sweet.  It’s a little rough, but nice for exfoliation.  And even though it’s considered a “mini” sponge, I felt that it was big enough to get the job done on the daily. Although, I wondered what it’s recycled from? Hmmmm…..

  • L’Oreal – Boost It Air-Blown Texture Mist – This is an awesome full-size product!  This is something you spray on your roots when your hair is damp to give it a little lift.  It definitely worked, but I have big hair already so I probably wouldn’t use this very much.

  • Soap Box – Coconut shampoo and conditioner – This shampoo/conditioner combo left my hair feeling clean and had a light coconut scent.  What’s interesting about this product is that this company has a global mission to make sure everyone receives clean water and soap.  So when you purchase one of their items, you also contribute to this pretty noble cause.  I like when companies give back, so I may purchase more of this brand in the future.

  • Skinfix – Repair balm – This is also a full-size product.  It is made from coconut oil and doesn’t have a flavor.  I thought it did a good job relieving chapped lips, but had kind of an oily feel.

  • Derma E – Hydrating night cream – This went on smooth and didn’t feel greasy.  It also had a pleasant, light scent.  It’s supposed to help fix fine lines and wrinkles, but I would need to use it more frequently to really see a difference.

  • Vera Wang – Embrace perfume – I’m not really a fan of the perfume samples where you have to rub scented paper all of you, so I was pleased to see an actual tiny spray bottle in the box.  It’s a nice, pleasant scent.  I didn’t hate it, but nothing really memorable.

  • Mayfair – Body crème in Sea Lily Jasmine – I really dig this lotion.  It’s a good consistency – not too thick, not too thin. It’s also paraben-free and this company doesn’t test on animals which is a sweet bonus!  I also really loved the scent.  It’s kind of on the sweeter side, which isn’t for everyone – but I absolutely loved it and will definitely be purchasing this product again.

  • Laneige BB cushion – This came with three different shades (light, medium, and medium dark) and an applicator sponge.  I went with the light and felt that it was the best shade for me.  I liked that it gave my skin an airbrushed appearance without feeling heavy or cake-like.  It does have a slight scent, but it wasn’t overwhelming.  The only downfall is that it retails for around $34 which is a bit much for me…but it’s that rad,  I might actually purchase this at some point.

  • Incoco – Nail polish applique – This item intrigued me the most, because it’s basically real nail polish that sticks right on to your nail and lasts for up to two weeks.

blogpic2

You just peel off the paper and stick it to your nail.  Then you file off the excess.  It’s that easy!  I really was surprised at the ease of use!  The strips come in all different sizes so  every nail receives full coverage.  I’m really terrible at doing my own nails, so I was pretty stoked about this product!  My only complaint was this terrible color…ugh, so much glitter.  Maybe a 12-year-old would enjoy this color, but ugh…it was tough to look at.  I took it off after three days because my eyes were burning from the junior high glitter party that was occurring on my fingernails.  I’m still recovering.  On the upside, it did come off pretty easy with nail polish remover.  I suspect it would have come off even easier had there not been glitter involved (so. much. glitter.).  Ugh, I would purchase this product in the future, but never again with that color.

blogpic3

Also included in the box was a coupon for $3 off a $15 beauty purchase.  This is a pretty good coupon.  I may use it on the Laneige BB Cushion. 🙂

Overall, I think this box was well worth the $7.  It included many full-size products and I can’t wait for next month’s box!  Let me know if you have tried any of these items!  I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Walmart Beauty Box (Winter 2015)

I was super excited to receive my newest Walmart beauty box this season!  If you recall, Walmart beauty boxes are a flat $5 and are shipped every season.  Again, I’ve heard that different people receive different samples in their boxes…so here is a review of what I got in mine!

Blogpicwalmart

Walmart got a little coconut happy with this box…maybe they were trying to bring a tropical feeling to the winter blues…I dunno, but so. much. coconut.

Goody slideproof hairbands – I actually love these!  I have long, thick and wavy hair, so I am pretty picky when it comes to hairbands.  I took these on a three mile run and I was surprised that they didn’t budge!  Also no snags or pulling, so I will definitely be purchasing these in the future.

NSpa exotically creamy coconut rich body butter – This has an unnecessarily long name, but I really loved the texture and scent of this cream!  It goes on smooth and has a nice creamy feel.  The coconut smell was pleasant and not too overwhelming.

Aveeno skin relief body wash (nourishing coconut) – I really liked the feeling of this body wash, but wasn’t a huge fan of the scent.  It seemed fake and made me want to get off the island.

Aveeno skin relief lotion (nourishing coconut) – I felt like the lotion was okay, nothing fantastic and again, I wasn’t a fan of this particular coconut scent.  I do normally like Aveeno products because some of the products contain natural ingredients.  Sidenote: I say “natural” loosely as Aveeno is a division of Johnson & Johnson so a lot of their products aren’t as “natural” as they claim to be. You can research that and draw your own conclusions, that’s just my personal opinion.

Pantene Pro-V extra strong hold hairspray – I think this hairspray did a pretty good job keeping my hair tame throughout the day.  It does claim to be humidity resistant for 24 hours, but there isn’t a whole lot of humidity in Southern California so it was hard to really test that.  But I did like the smell, it reminded me of cotton candy! Yum!

That’s it for the regular size samples, now on to the one-time use packets…

Jergens wet skin moisturizer (refreshing coconut oil) – I found this lotion to be a bit thin and my skin felt a little irritated after using this right out of the shower.  I also wasn’t a fan of the coconut oil scent.

Jergens wet skin moisturizer (nourishing monoi oil – Same feelings as above, except the scent was much nicer.

L’Oreal total repair 5 restoring shampoo – I’m not exactly sure it restored my hair in one use, but my hair felt clean and smelled nice.

L’Oreal total repair 5 damage-erasing balm – This was obviously a thicker texture and meant to be left on for 3-5 minutes.  Again, not sure if it erased damage in one use…but I would probably give it another shot.

L’Oreal total repair 5 restoring conditioner – Okay, real talk.  I honestly wasn’t sure if I was supposed to use this along with the damage-erasing balm, or use it in a different session.  The instructions on both the balm and the conditioner said to use it after using the shampoo, but didn’t specify whether or not they weren’t meant to be used together.  Anywho, I used this right after rinsing out the balm because I always need conditioner.  My hair felt smooth and clean after and I would probably use this product in the future.

Olay tone perfecting cream – The cream felt nice, but using it once isn’t enough to determine if it was effective in perfecting tones.  It had a nice, lingering smell…it kind of reminded me of a grandma, but like a cool and fun grandma.

Olay regenerist wrinkle reducing cream – It claims that visible wrinkle results start after one use, but I couldn’t tell a difference.  Although to be fair, I don’t have many wrinkles to begin with.  Maybe I will try it again in a few years.

Jennifer Aniston fragrance – See previous blog post for thoughts on this.

L’Oreal skin shade swatch – This little guy was actually pretty handy.  How many times do you stand in the aisle staring at all of the foundations and guessing which one will best match your skintone?  It’s usually hit or miss, so this little guide takes the guesswork out of all that.  There are three levels: warm, neutral and cool.  And each level ranges from 1-10.  You basically just peel one of the nine swatches off and stick it on your face.  Whichever one looks closest to your skintone is the winner!  That’s it!  Easy as pie!  And in case you were wondering, I’m a Cool-1.

Add a few coupons into the mix and that’s a wrap!  Another awesome beauty box from WalMart!  Get yours here.

What did you get in yours?  I would love to know!

Walmart Beauty Box (Autumn 2015)

Even though I am trying to switch to all natural beauty products, I decided to try out the Walmart beauty box because, well….I’m also on a budget. So basically with this deal, you pay a flat $5 and get a box of about five full size samples every new season. Just like any subscription service, there is an automatic payment deducted from your account each time…so keep that in mind. I’ve heard with this service, you may receive different items based on what info you provided in your profile (I.e. age, skin tone, beauty habits, etc.) So here’s my swag!

IMG_4247.JPG

Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Care – this sounds like a pretty intense name for “lotion”. Like I don’t know who the target audience is for this product, but it sounds serious. Basically it was moisturizing lotion that kind of smelled like Play Doh.

Aussie MegaHold Hairspray – I liked how this smelled and it did a decent job of keeping my wavy hair from becoming unruly throughout the day. One downfall is that it comes in an aerosol can, which isn’t good for the whole atmosphere/ozone layer situation.

Act Advanced Care Plaque Guard – I liked how this tasted and how there wasn’t any type of burning sensation during use. My mouth felt clean and refreshed after using it. I think that’s the goal of all mouthwashes though…anywho, it will be a handy travel item.

Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in Gladiolus – I loved how this lipstick went on and actually stayed put all day without having a sticky feeling; however, I was not a big fan of the color. Although I’m sure many people could pull it off, it was a bit too bold for me.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer – I usually like all Aveeno products and this was no exception. It didn’t feel greasy and felt like a trustworthy moisturizer.

That’s it for the big samples, now on to the smaller ones. I never really understand “one-time use” samples as I feel that you need to use products for about a week to really get results from anything, but eh, I gave it a shot anyway. I’ve also heard that if you take a safety pin and poke a small hole in the sample packets that it will help you get longer use out of them, but I didn’t have a safety pin…or that much patience.

IMG_4250-0.JPG

L’oreal Revita Lift Miracle Blur Cream – I actually was surprised with this one. I could immediately tell a difference as soon as I put it on. It definitely smoothed and evened out my skin, but it did feel a bit thick and heavy.

L’oreal Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Oil – I wasn’t a huge fan of this one, it was a bit too oily for me. But i suspect that if I used it for a week or so I may have seen better results.

Nivea Extended Moisture Body Lotion – I liked this lotion better than the Vaseline one. I felt that it smelled better and went on easier. Although I guess it wasn’t meant to be as intense as the other one. This apparently is more of an everyday lotion, whereas the other one is for skin dryness emergencies.

Jennifer Aniston Fragrance – This was not my cup of tea and I really wanted to like it since I like Jennifer Aniston…but it was just a bit too heavy and borderline old ladyish for me. I think maybe she should stick to movies and Aveeno commercials for now.

Crest 3D White Brilliance 2 Step Toothpaste – This came with two different toothpastes that you use for a minute each all in one setting. It felt a little weird as it was a bit “pasty” and heavy, but there really was no discomfort during or after…which is surprising because I do have sensitive teeth. I don’t really know if my teeth looked any whiter after the first use, but again I probably would have to use it for about a week to see any real results.

Then there were a couple of coupons for some of the sample items which is nice, because I LOVE coupons. Overall, it was an okay box and I always enjoy trying new products. I probably wouldn’t pay more than $5 for these samples, but I may buy one or two of these full size products sometime in the future…so I guess Walmart did its job. I will say, that I have also tried the Target beauty box in the past and I was a bit more impressed with that one. So I will have to wait for the Walmart Winter Beauty Box to do some more comparisons.
But I always love some good beauty swag. 😉
