“It’s so hot, milk was a bad choice.” ~ Ron Burgundy

Even though milk is sometimes recommended as a recovery drink, I personally think it’s too hot here in Florida to be throwing back milk before or after a run. But water alone isn’t really cutting it and some sports drinks are too sweet for me. So I was thrilled to have the opportunity to try these nifty little hydration tablets from Science in Sport.

They come in several different flavors, such as Berry and Pink Grapefruit; however, I had the pleasure of trying Pineapple Mango, Lemon, and Cola. I really didn’t have any expectations on the flavors, except I don’t necessarily care for cola flavored things so I had to really open my mind on that one.

I started with the Pineapple Mango and was pleasantly surprised with the taste and texture! I dropped one tablet into my bottle of water and watched it fizz for a couple of minutes before trying it out.  I liked the fruity flavor and didn’t feel that it was too overpowering or sweet. I also appreciated that there wasn’t any weird aftertaste either.  Two thumbs up for the Pineapple Mango! đŸ™‚

Next, I tried out the lemon before heading out for a quick run at 2pm.  Oddly enough, I do enjoy running in the heat. It feels like I’m being comforted in a warm blanket on a beautiful day.  But, it’s not for everyone. And if you aren’t used to running in the heat, definitely don’t go for any kind of run at 2pm in Florida. However, I popped one of the Lemon tabs in my water about an hour before my run and really felt hydrated the whole time!

Just breathe!

Then it was time to try the Cola! Since it has caffeine, I figured it would motivate me to finish a strength/HIIT workout!

Even though I didn’t exactly have high hopes for this flavor, it did taste better than I expected. I also added a little extra water to this one, but overall the flavor wasn’t terrible. However, I wasn’t completely thrilled that it contained caffeine just because I really LOVE coffee and prefer for that to be my main source of caffeination. đŸ™‚

Then for one last hydration test, I took my little tablets to the hottest place I could think of – the beach! đŸ™‚ It was certainly helpful to have some electrolytes on a hot summer beach day with the kiddos!

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the Hydro Tablets. Sometimes flavored tablets miss the mark, but I thought these really checked off all my boxes. I even thought the tubes were handy and easy for transportation. As for flavor, I would rank these as follows:

  • Pineapple Mango = Beyonce’
  • Lemon – Kelly
  • Cola – Michelle

These tablets were so helpful for quenching my thirst, that I really found myself drinking them throughout the day – even if I wasn’t working out or running. However, it is not recommended to consume more than 4 tablets in a day or else you’re gonna throw your sodium levels wayyyy off and it’s gonna be a bad day.

  • As far as the price point – $11, I think it’s pretty reasonable especially since you get 20 tablets in a bottle and sports drinks can cost anywhere from $2-$4. You can also snag a bundle of 4 for $39.99.

And to sweeten the deal even more, you can use code BIBRAVE20 for 20% off hydro tablets!

I’m really looking forward to trying these tablets before some much longer runs. I think they will be a life saver!

Also, I do recommend adding ice or using really cold water as it helps improve the taste even more. Plus you will appreciate it even more after a run on a hot summer day! Like Olaf says, “The hot and the cold are both so intense
Put ’em together it just makes sense!”

Have your tried the Science in Sport Hydro Tablets? What was your favorite flavor? I’d love to hear in the comments below! I’ll be planning my next trip to the beach. đŸ˜‰
