Grocery Shopping: Love it or Loathe it?

Well, I think there ARE two types of people: those who LOVE grocery shopping and those don’t.  Guess which one I am?!  Grocery shopping might be my least favorite activity…like ever. I should probably also add that I don’t enjoy cooking either.  I have no patience in the kitchen – and if the recipe calls for more than five ingredients, forget it. Invite me to your potluck and you’ll get something tasty…but basic. 😉

However, I’ve discovered in my later years that if I want to be a better runner, I’m gonna have to eat better.  So this means being more intentional with my choices at the grocery store. I’ve been doing some research on Raley’s which is one of the official sponsors of the Napa Valley Marathon to see if maybe I can somehow love grocery shopping again! Here are a few ways Raley’s can enhance your grocery shopping experience!

  1. There’s an app for that – The first thing about Raley’s that caught my attention was that there’s an app!  Streamlining grocery shopping to my mobile device makes life a bit simpler.

2.    Schedule a pickup or delivery – Say what?!  I don’t even have to set foot in the grocery store? Um, yes please.  I think this is especially great for folks who have issues getting around and for caregivers of small children!

IMG_7840     3.  Awesome deals – Since I’m not a big fan of grocery shopping, I don’t like overpaying for certain products.  I know healthy CAN be more expensive at times, but if you can buy stuff when it’s in season or on sale, then there should be no problem choosing healthier items.  Plus if you combine it with coupons and rebate apps (like Ibotta) then you can really save some…wait for it…dough! 😉

4.    Sort by diet & lifestyle – One thing that I thought was really cool about the Raley’s app was the option to filter your shopping by Diet & Lifestyle.  So whether your Keto, Gluten-Free, Plant-based, or just a have a particular food preference – you can easily search & select your preferred foods!

Even though there isn’t a Raley’s near me (they are located mostly in Northern California and Nevada) I love that they still offer recipes and nutritional guides that can be used by anyone all over the world!  And they even have special nutritional advice for runners!

I’m looking forward to learning some more about Raley’s and trying out one of their provided recipes.  Maybe I’ll even make one that consists of more than five ingredients. 😉

Oh, but there IS one thing that I love about grocery stores…the music!  If you catch me dancing in aisle 5, just keep it moving. 😉
